Film Spring Open Air is not a film school. We do not impose a tight schedule. You can freely choose the modules you wish to attend. It depends on you how well you use this time! In 2014 the program of Film Spring Open Air is updated with current market trends.We will also continue programs that have started during previous editions.
Creative groups come with projects that weresent to us during the recruitment, and then pre-developed during the pre-production work.At Film Spring Open Air under the supervision of selected professionals, who become mentors and coordinators, creative groups will practically implement their projects.The program for 2014 includes the following groups:
FILM ADAPTATIONS OF THEATRICAL SPECTACLES GROUP
Do you want to make a filmbut you do not have an idea for your script? Or do you have your own project but it is not yet polished enough to show it to the world? Adapt it! Have you seen “Venus in Fur” by Roman Polański? If so then you know very well that film adaptation is an art that creates new quality. You can choose from ready-made works and give them completely new form by creating a distinct film work. This group will practically make film adaptations of theatrical spectacles that are known from acting schools or professional ones from theatrical stages. That’s not all! By submitting your idea for adaptation you are taking part in a competition which awards are funded by our technology partner, Canon. Details coming soon!
GAME JAM GROUP – GAME DEVELOPERS AND FILMMAKERS
If you want to create a film thatat the same time will be a game, or create a game that will bea film, join this group! Game Jam is an interdisciplinary group of interactive storytelling. This team combines a world of filmmakers and a world of computer games. The filmmaker will learn what is technology of digital interactive content and what tools to use. INTERACTIVE DRAMATURGY GROUP
Do you watch a film and suddenly you think that this story might have a completely different ending? What if you leave a choice to the viewers of your film? Cinema will follow towards a new format of the film show searching for an alternative to the traditional, linear story. At Film Spring Open Air we discuss a lot about the new viewer who wants to decide to participate in the creation of a story and thus affects the further development of its dramatic events. Do you want to make a film or a video in three dimensions? This group is just for you! In 2011 the pioneer 3D workshops took place at Film Spring Open Air. Since then, participants interested in this technology come back to us with scripts or already started projects. The group coordinator is a well-known stereographer and rig constructor. Participants actively work on the set, take part in hands-on camera tests using the latest tools for stereoscopic production (3D Rigs) and make 3D clips.
DOCUMENTARY FILM GROUP
We do not forget about short films and documentaries! Documentary workshops are continuously a part of our annual program and bring a lot of creative effects. Every year participants make several experimental forms of documentaries, for which they win awards not only in Poland but also abroad. Are you dreaming of your own documentary? Join this group!
CGI GROUP (ANIMATIONS AND COMPUTER PREVIZUALIZATION)
Huge advances in technology made it now easier and cheaper to make scenes using a computer than in reality. In this group we’ll teach you about it! We pay special attention to the tremendous opportunities that editing gives today (motion design, VFX) and digital post-production, in particular the art of creating moving objects using a computer (computer animation – CGI). Work in this groupis a practical course of creating pre-visualizations using simple tools – computer programs: computer graphics and visual effects.
COMMERCIAL ADVERTISEMENT GROUP
Do you associate your future work on the commercial market; do you want to make commercials? Join this group! During Film Spring Open Air we educate also in this field. The theme of practical works and implemented films are commercial projects consulted with a group coordinator invited renowned specialist of commercial films. MUSIC VIDEOS GROUP
Do you want to make music videos and make them short works of art?
Apply for a group working on a music video of a selected music track. As a group coordinator we invite acclaimed director who helps participants in the implementation of short music forms. NEW PRODUCTION MODEL GROUP
Are you interested in film production, do you want to make films better and cheaper?
In this group you will learn about it. The new production model workshops focus on comparing current and innovative ways of working on a film set. We will have a look at the workflow in multiple camera system and consider the division of teams in the so-called: units. We will check how editing and color correction on the set may affect the shape of a film.
Is it possible to work in several groups at once? It all depends on you and how well you organize your time!
NEW DIGITAL IMAGE TECHNIQUES: CAMERA TESTS
Thanks to numerous technology partners every year we are supported with an impressive amount of equipment. During workshops “new digital image techniques” we will make comparative tests of different cameras. Camera work will be checked in adverse situations, such as in low light, with a large amount of detail in the scene, colorful light and finally comparing the results. You’ll be up to date!
MEETINGS WITH AUTHORS AND ANALYSING THEIR FILMS
Every year at Film Spring Open meetings with renownedauthors take place during which we analyze their recent films. Invited filmmakers talk about the practicalside of their projects. During discussions they will tell you about problems they had during production of a certain film, they will answer your questions, motivate you to work, tell you what you should watch out for, and if necessary they will recreate the creative process,scene after scene. We also discuss about problems associated with the start of careers, therefore besides directors with big achievements we invite artists from young generation just aftertheir debut features. Among them we had i.e. Jan Komasa analysis of the film “Suicide Room”, Tomasz Wasilewski analysis of the film “In the Bedroom” and Bodo Kox analysis of the film “The Girl From The Wardrobe”.
SET DESIGN AND THE IMAGE: VISUAL DIRECTING
Dynamic development of new technologies and distributed authorship of a film image made us introduce something groundbreaking – a new profession called “Visual Director”.
Visual Director means a person entirely responsible for the visual side of the film combining the skills of cinematography and set design. It does not matter whether you have been educated asa set designer or cinematographer. It is important enough to remodel your approach to the current profession to be able to take on new challenges imposed by the rapidly developing market. During this year’s Film Spring Open Air we will have a lecture in the field of stage design and implementation of an image emphasizing on thinking through the image in the preparation of your future projects.
CONTENT MONETIZATION THANKS TO CREATING ONLINE CHANNELS
At Film Spring Open Air we consistently continue talks on the possibility of content monetization on Internet platforms. During the next edition we will talk about how to create your own channel successfully on the Internet and effectively animate a community gathered around it.
